I’d Rather

In our lives we are
Making decisions
Every day. There’s
One kind of decision
That we make based
On preference. It’s
An I’d rather this or
That based purely
On the person’s
Preference.

Serenity Pool

Deep in the woods away
From the noise of the
City is a haven of peace
Called Serenity Pool.
It has benches around
It so people can sit and
Reflect and make decisions.
Couples can be together
In peace. Looking into
The pool you can see
Into the future.

Creating

I create little vacuums
Cupped between my hands
That turn into little
Solar systems and
Then let them go.
It’s exhausting work.

The Sandwich

What would we do without
The sandwich? The Earl of
Sandwich was a pretty
Smart guy to think of
Slapping some meat and
Cheese or whatever your
Heart desires between
Two pieces of bread. I’ll
Bet he didn’t have a
Patent on it, though.

Let’s Have Fun

Skip down the sidewalk.
Make sure your neighbors
See you doing it.
Observe Red Rubber Nose
Day. Tell corny jokes on
Purpose. Tell serious people
It takes fewer muscles to
Smile than it does to
Frown. Feed a squirrel.

Mansions

Old Victorian mansions are
Awe-inspiring and a monument
To a period of time when
Artisans took pride in their
Workmanship. No power
Tools, every tool was human
Powered. Touring a mansion
Is like going back in time,
When society was cultured
And genteel and produced
Some amazing architecture.

Sands

Life begins and ends at
The seashore. When we
Walk barefooted on the
Beach the surf erases
Our footprints as soon
As we make them. The
Shifting, whispering,
Sands are a metaphor
For the impermanence
Of life. Life is for living
Now.

Horses

Horses have been around
Far longer than humans.
These magnificent creatures
Are loved by everyone, by
Children especially. Their
Gentle natures don’t hide
Their awesome strength.
It is rare to find someone
Who doesn’t love horses.

Locked Unit

no track of time

entombed darkly

faint sticky sounds

impending nudge through

pop slimy gooey squeeze

down to dirt city with

barbed wire godless creatures

dragged into a locked unit

I’m stripped of everything

except my clothes and a

shred of dignity and thoughts

they won’t let me see the stars

I don’t dare tell them I’m a poet

if they know, the subhuman

soultakers would subvert the truth

Therapy

In this stressful and crazy
World that seems to make
No sense, sometimes people
Consult a therapist to get
Help with sorting things out.
When you ask a therapist
A question, they will answer
By asking you a question.
There is the answer. Look
At yourself for the answers.
