If indeed you must be candid,
Be candid beautifully,
Otherwise keep silent, for there
Is a man in our neighborhood
Who is dying.

Foundered
A homeless man liked to eat
Fried frog legs, because they
Tasted like chicken. And one
Day he ate so many that he
Became foundered on them,
Never wanting to eat frog
Legs again.
The Archer
The archer stands at the edge
Of the forest looking out over
The field. The wind is blowing,
The birds are taking off from
The fields. A deer stands within
Range. But it’s not game he’s
Looking for, he’s looking for
His lost love.
Silence
If indeed you must be candid,
Be candid beautifully, otherwise
Keep silent for there is a man
In our neighborhood who is
Dying.
Rebirth
Seems like we are stuck in
A rut and will never get
Out of our dreary life. We
Think things will be the
Same forever. But one
Day a revelation hits us
Out of the blue that
Rebirth is possible for
Everyone.
Welcome
Where is Indian country?
Everywhere we stand.
Anywhere we dance.
It’s where the heart loves
The feel of our feet.
Welcome to Indian Country.
Now give us back our land!
Hold Up
One night I was walking
Down a dark street. A
Masked man held me
Up at gunpoint. I
Turned my pockets
Inside out to show I
Didn’t have anything.
And he stole my pants.
Far Out
It occurs to me it
Is the ability to be
Still, to be totally
Aware of any given
Moment, this is
Poetry–far out.
The Magician
Our next door neighbor was a
Kindly elderly man who told
Us he was a retired magician.
He would gladly come over
When invited for dinner. And
He would amaze our youngest
Daughter with magic tricks.
One evening he told us this
May be the last time he
Would be able to make it
Over–he had an incurable
Disease and would soon
Perform the ultimate
Disappearing act.
King
A king knocked at our door
One day and introduced
Himself as king so-and-so.
He said I’ve got a slight
problem–I’m lost. I don’t
Know where my kingdom
Is. We did not know how
To help him so we gave
Him a map and some food
And sent him on his way.
