No Bingo Today

When I saw the no bingo
Sign today, I yelled GREAT–
I hate that game! People
Sitting around playing for
The chance of winning
Potato chips or soft drinks,
When I would rather win a
Big, fat bacon cheeseburger!
Oh well, it gives elderly
People something to do at
The senior center.

The Magician

Our next door neighbor was a
Kindly elderly man who told
Us he was a retired magician.
He would gladly come over
When invited for dinner. And
He would amaze our youngest
Daughter with magic tricks.
One evening he told us this
May be the last time he
Would be able to make it
Over–he had an incurable
Disease and would soon
Perform the ultimate
Disappearing act.

Sunshine

An old aunt of mine used
To say let the sunshine in
With a smile on her face.
She made everyone happy
With her delightful attitude.
Smiles helped the sun shine.

Mom

Mom’s been around for
A long time. At 98 years
Young, she’s sharp as a
Tack, soft spoken. And
Mom is a little hard of
Hearing. Her love for
Her family and in-laws
Is real and returned
Back to Mom. It’s easy
To make her laugh.
And her gentle nature
Wins everyone over.
We want Mom to last
Forever.

Mansions

Old Victorian mansions are
Awe-inspiring and a monument
To a period of time when
Artisans took pride in their
Workmanship. No power
Tools, every tool was human
Powered. Touring a mansion
Is like going back in time,
When society was cultured
And genteel and produced
Some amazing architecture.

What I Found

One day I was walking
Down a country road
And happened upon
A deserted ramshackle
House that looked like it
Had not been lived in
For a long time
My curiosity got the
Better of me and I
Waded through the
Weeds to the front door
And entered the house
I went to a room I guessed
Was a bedroom and opened
A drawer of a chest
In it was a paper that had
Written on it: Be kind
